The entire Uncle Gussy’s family, at both our Midtown Manhattan and Long Island City locations, is very sad to not be able to bring our delicious, quick and healthy meals to you during this difficult time. While all those who can remain inside their homes, we want you all to be able to fulfill your cravings for our delicious food! Now more than ever, food is a comfort to us all throughout our most trying times.
Although we cannot gather together now and enjoy Uncle Gussy’s gyro or souvlaki, there are many staple ingredients to Greek cuisine, and a number of them are probably already in your kitchen! At the heart of Greek cooking is olive oil, preferably Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Greeks use a lot of fresh and light ingredients, notably lemons and herbs. You can prepare simples dishes with these ingredients, like roasted potatoes, a Greek salad, yellow rice, sauteed fish or even roasted chicken. The most important thing to remember is not to over season your meats and vegetables. Greek food, like many Mediterranean cuisines, is nutritious, fresh, and flavorful. While at home, it may difficult not to eat junk foods and unhealthy snacks. But quick, healthy, and simple Greek meals can be achieved in your very own kitchen!
